OC Fashion: Amy Peter's Studio

The punk girl look nowadays is not only about ugly black chokers and black nails, its all about matching trendy accesorries with punky but not trashy outfits. Alex (Olivia Wilde) from the OC is a great example of this.

Please open any links with a new window, so you can continue to read this post!
Alex's funky jewellry is actually from Amy Peter's Studio, which are noted for thier simple and whimsical style, with heartfelt messages for the wearer. But wait, here's the good part. Unlike some of the fashions you will see on "The OC" Peters' designs won't break the bank! The retail prices for designs range between $20-$50. Finally, something we can afford!

Exclusive close-ups of OC Jewellry
These were some of the specific jewellry featured in The OC! Not many people know about these, but since it is our mission to keep you up to date with fashion, we are now featuring the photos of the jewellry for you to admire. These make great, meaningful and totally cool gifts (especially with the OC factor) both for friends and yourself!

But apart from Alex's punky look, these charm accessories can also be used to achieve the bohemian luxe look that is ever so popular this spring. Here are some of Harrods girl and I's favourite pieces:

This uniquely designed Believe in Yourself bracelet is simple yet chic, and will go with almost any outfit.

These absolutely adorable gem charms, which you can put on your necklace, bracelet, earring, key chains, bags, mobiles-basically anywhere you can think of to hang them.

We especially love these Simple Air earrings, since both Harrods girl and I belong to the air element. Check out which element you are here and find the right pair of earrings for your element!

Stay focus to your goals with these talisman tags. Harrods girl and I would love to have devotion and inspiration.

Wear your underpants, the funky way

Many of the fashionable (such as we,) are desperate for spring to come so we can start wearing pretty skirts and dresses again. But what do you do if you really want to wear one now? Admittedly, I have seen people in the streets wearing mini skirts with Uggs, but REAL fashionables never dress out of season, (ie. We are telling you once and for all that mini skirts are for summer, not winter.) Here's a funky and fashion-foward way of dressing in season and not look ridiculous in skirts, (not to mention your body will love the extra heat insulation.)

I am inspired by the way Mary Kate Olsen wears thin black pants underneath her skirts. It makes her look more bohemian and just gives her outfit that extra touch. But be warned: don't wear pants that are too thick-looking, or those that are too long. You will just end up looking bulky.

Here's another excellent example of Mary Kate's excellent outfits, (remember that she just got listed as the 9th best dresser by Glamour magazine and she is only 18yrs old.) Matching the black underpants with a pair of bright colored pants emphasises on the multi-layers.

The black underpants still look great and trendy even when matched with such a casual outfit. And it definately keeps the legs warm. Also notice that the underpants are never long enough to touch the boots. In order to make them look funky, you must still show a teensy bit of skin. But if you going for a more girly and ballet look, you can let the underpants be long enough to cover your whole legs.

Grammys Award 2005 Fashion

Sunday was the Grammy's, the Golden Globes of the music world, where are the stars are all glammed up to be recognized and shine. But it appears that the stars of the music world have quite a different definition of "glam" than the stars of the Golden Globes. And to be honest, Harrods girl and I were quite disappointed. Here is Loretta Lynn's idea of glam. . . .

We know you've been around for a long time, but fashion and glam HAS changed since back in the days. Although there are some exceptions to this rule (thank god). . . .

Alicia Keys for example, in this glam dress in white (the new "black" of the Grammy's!), that is both sexy and demure at the same time. Although I must add that straight on, this dress is not very flattering to her figure at all.

J Lo singing a duet with her husband Marc Anthony, in this foamy greek-like halter gown. Not especially glam or anything but defintely a BIG improvement from her barely-there Versace number last year. Oh and from this picture, they look so matching!! How adorable!!

Beyonce in this sexy, elegant black dress is simply gorgeous. By far my favourite outfit of the evening. Now THIS is my definition of glam!

Christina Milian, in a cute white (again! JLO must've gotten the glam look right for her Sweet Face line) cocktail dress. Simple yet chic, not spectacular but sufficiently elegantly glammed in comparison to others in attendance.

Joss Stones in this beautiful yet simple long dress. If nothing else, it is the reflecting undertones of orange and red that makes it stand out and shine.

And these are the only ones that Harrods Girl and I find noteworthy, and most of them weren't even that glamourous! Needless to say, we are unimpressed. . . . . .

Happy Valentines Day

Well, if you are reading this message right now, you are probably like us - dateless, single and loving it. Barneys Girl and Harrods Girl wish you all a Happy Valentines Day! And we want to emphasise that you do not need a date or boyfriend to actually have a happy day. But it is definately an excuse to go treat yourself, so go plurge on yourself today! Love you all!

London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2005

We just had to remind everyone that this week is going to be the London Fashion Week, held at Battersea Park in London. The fashion shows run from Feb 13 to 17. London collections are always worth noticing because of their individualness, and that they seem less commercialised than fellow American collections.

Also, London fashion weekend will be held from Feb 17 to 20. For those unfamiliar, London fashion weekend is an event during which you need to purchase a ticket (10-15 pounds) to enter, and you get to admire the sacred venue of the fashion week.
"This fantastic event is London’s ultimate designer shopping experience with over 100 London Fashion Week designers selling their collections at fantastically reduced prices......you can find high-end designer fashion at exceptional prices, enjoy a day of pampering..."

This year, being my first time being anywhere near a fashion week venue, means that I MUST attend London Fashion Weekend and have a look around. Hopefully, I will even find a few bargains, especially since I desperately need a bag.

New York Autumn/Winter 2005 Wrap-up II

So the "ready-to-wear" (as the fashionable likes to call it) Autumn/Winter 2005 fashion show has already ended in New York. Most of the RTW looked really wintery, black and dreary. And personally I'm not quite in the mood yet for fall and winter, esp when I haven't even been able to wear the colorful spring clothes we've been looking at for the last few months. But here are some of my favourite shows this week, mostly because they still have a hint of spring/summer in it or because they're simply timeless.

Our fellow Fashionista, Pinkmirage, was right. Luca Luca is indeed a brand of great potential and beautiful things. While the color of this dress has been toned down for the season, it still carries a hint of the floral pattern that is so trendy this spring. Even Anna Wintour was moved to come see this show after Luca Luca went to see her and showed her samples which she thought looked interesting.

The Matthew Williamson show was awesome as well. He too combined the flowing spirit of spring into his fall/winter collection with slightly toned down colors and a more autumn-y style. He obviously knows what he's about, no wonder Sienna Miller wants him to design her wedding dress.

I just can't help but LOVE the Nicole Miller show this season. Especially this dress, there's something sooo lovely about this empire waist dress, it reminds me of a modern version of a medieval princess dress.

This Sass & Bide outfit is incredibly stylish and cleverly combined, kind of like an autumn version of the nautica theme this season.

And one cannot help but love Oscar de la Renta's collection of expertly cut outfits of stlyish, elegant and timeless designs. The gorgeous green outfit above is an excellent example of this.

And last but certainly not least, is "Sweetface" by Jennifer Lopez, her new line will have higher prices and a more limited distribution then her current JLo line. The fashion show was split into the 3 stages of her life and featured a lot of fur (as seen above), jeans, jumpsuits, halter tops- all very JLo. And judging from the finale-a lot of whites. Overall it wasn't too spectacular a fashion show (and was even boo-ed by excited fashionista's outside the venue), but it was still quite a show and display of star power.

But alas, as I said before, its hard to get into the spirit of autumn and winter at the moment. . .perhaps in a few months time when we all get fed up with flip flops and shorts, and can't wait to wear boots again?

New York Autumn/Winter 2005 Wrap-up I

New York Fashion Week just ended last night with a long anticipated show by Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface. The New York shows were, well, just what you would expect from the New York shows. Although Barneys Girl and I didn't want to confuse fellow readers with what season we are in now, I can't possibly not tell you which shows were my favourite in New York! But I was very disappointed that a lot designers seemed to have treaded on familiar grounds, or even combining what had been in trend in the last few seasons to form this new season.

Favourite collections this season:
Marc by Marc Jacobs
Next season, the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection will be all the typical apperal you would expect from this line. The style is familiar and gives off a super fashionable young vibe. As usual, this collection is full of vibrant colors and Jacob's signature patchwork. The clothes were very eighties. Important features include black knee-high socks, ankle-high suade boots, full volume skirts and dresses.
Anna Sui
The Anna Sui collection was once again a delightful treat to one's eyes. The clothes came and went on the runway in a ordered, but colorful way, starting with brown and green, progressing to gold and orange, then to green and purple, and finally to black and white. Imporant features to look out for in this collection were the hats, the Anna signature prints & patterns, tweed (slightly different from last season's tweed,) and boho & ladylike twist.
Diesel
Diesel has presented its first runway show in NY, as part of its campaign to renew its brand image as a higher end brand. I thought the first half of the show was uninteresting, and basically said that you should be anorexic looking and midriff-baring to wear the renewed Diesel. However, the second half of the show was much more creative, involving clothes that you would not expect to see by Diesel, such as this outfit:
