Mini Haul - Earrings and Jeans

This afternoon I went to the mall with my mom and Gabrielle, and we ran into some good sales. Payless is having a buy one get one 1/2 off everything. You can buy a pair of shoes and sunglasses, one of those would be 1/2 off. I didn't get anything at Payless though, as they didn't have any shoes I liked in my size. =)

We also stopped at J.C.Penny were I picked up a pair of jeans for $17 normally $36. My old pair is faded and forming holes on the seams. Not pretty.

Our last stop was at Claire's. I only have three pairs of earrings and I'm getting tired of wearing the same ones everyday. =) At Claire's they are having a buy 2 get one pair free sale. So of course I bought three pairs. 

 

And now I have eleven more pairs of earrings. =) I can't wait for when I can wear non-post earrings! For all stores seam to have the same kind of post earrings! I see a need for someone to design unique post earrings. Who is with me?    

There are the sales I discovered while out shopping today.  Oh, The Young Victoria comes out on DVD and on iTunes tomorrow!

Vintage looks for Today....

I love clothing with a vintage flair. Anything from....well any time period is fine with me, so long as it isn't over done. I thought it would be fun to recreate some vintage inspired looks for today. I warn you that some of the pieces I used are expensive, so for those just look for cheaper versions. That is, if you if you want to recreate the look. =)

A classic look of the "little black dress". Pair your black fabulous dress with some great heels. Add a layer pearl necklace and silver jewelry accents.  For a more vintage look add gloves!

Floral shift dress, t-strap heels, unique headband, over-sized shades,  layered necklace, plus don't forget your clutch. And you are on your way to a vintage style that can look oh, so modern.

For the Summer wear a nice summer dress with heels. Add a large handbag and your handy shades to block the sun out of yours eyes. For you don't want to be blinded in such a stylish outfit!

Pair a simple skirt with a top full of ruffles. Add flats that have a statement to them, pearl earrings, layered necklace, light-weight silky scarf, and a nice handbag.

Maurices

Maurices has some cute stuff, many of which is modest and stylish. Hurray! I can't remember how I found out about them. I think it was through a blog. Well any way, I thought I would share with you some of their cute stuff. =)

First off, they have several different styles groups. Meaning there is something for everyone. Isn't that wonderful? In this post I'll focus on their Spring collections. Which is lovely.

Free Spirit -

 

Here is a great outfit from the "Free Spirit" collection. A smocked plaid top paired with a long jean skirt. Add some great flats and cool shades - and you have a great outfit for any casual event!

 

Another look from the "Free Spirit" collection. This time I paired a long khaki skirt with a hooded shirt.

Aztec -

 

A multi-colored foil tee paired with a long jean skirt.  Add a hobo bag, Aztec style ring, and brown boots.  And you have a modest but stylish outfit. 

 

Take a brown tiered skirt pair it with a smocked plaid shirt add: earrings, flats, and a brown belt. And you have a western themed outfit. :)

A la Parisienne -

  

Stylish gray pants and a draped pink top make for one European outfit. Add a faux crocodile handbag, charm bracelet, earrings, and some great shoes. 

   

 

A darling green top with elegant looking Capri's will have you looking like spring. Pair it with some earrings and a sparkling tote. 

 

 

With a tulip jean skirt and butterfly sleeve top, this outfit just screams Spring is here! =)

Garden Party -

 

A floral dress with some sling back heels makes for a perfect outfit for work, church, or a party. Accessorizes with  quilted purse, necklace, and a flower headband.

 

Basic gaucho pants with a pleated empire waist tee and pearl and chain necklace.  

What are your favorites? My favorite collection has to be "A la Perisienne" with a few pieces from "Aztec" and "Garden Party".

Nancy Drew's Style

We had a reader request a Nancy Dress post and I thought, "why not? I love Nancy's style!" So here we are, a post dedicated to the style of Nancy Drew. =) 

First off, I will give examples of what Nancy would wear in the original books c.1930s -1940s. I'll also share Nancy's style in the old black & white movies with Bonita Granvielle. 

If you have never seen the old Nancy Drew movies with Bonita Granvielle, may I highly recommend them to you! True, they are not like the books, but they hold the spirit of Nancy Drew and they are clean family-friendly movies. You can watch and download Nancy Drew: Reporter at Internet Archive, as it is in the public domain. The other Nancy Drew movies can be seen sometimes on TCM, or you can buy them on DVD.

The above sets show some examples on how you can dress Drew's style today.  Wear classic looking skirts with blouses or nicer type of shirts. Do pair it with kitten heels and a nice cloche. As Nancy would surely approve.

In the movies Nancy wore blouses with bows, skirts, dresses, full slacks, fedoras, wedges, cardigans, and jackets.  All in all, Nancy has a very classic look.

What I'm in love with fashion wise...

Tulle skirts are what I'm really liking right now. As tulle skirts are fun, girly, and just fun to wear. In fact, I made myself one this past week-end. Pictures are coming soon!

 To tie you over, I have found some resources on where you can buy one for yourself. That is  if you don't want to sew one for yourself.

8 Ways You Can Wear a Sweater Dress

Sweater dresses are cute and comfy! Though, you have to be careful in the fit. As it took me awhile to find one that wasn't form fitting, or too short for my taste. But I finally found one while I was on vacation. It was at the Polo Ralph Lauren Outlet, and it was on clearance.

Once I was back from vacation, I experiment with accessories and was able to come up with eight ways to wear a sweater dress. Here are my results.

Plain Basic Sweater Dress

Wearing  this type of dress plain doesn't look the greatest. It can make you look unflattering. And who wants to look like that? Not me! I want something that will look flattering on me! So on to the accessories!
